A warmer to practise correcting spelling and punctuation.

Procedure

  • Give the students a text with a number of proofreading mistakes (incorrect spelling, punctuation, etc). Tell the students they have five minutes to read through the text and highlight as many mistakes as they can.
  • Afterwards, each team takes it in turn to call out the errors they have spotted (for which they would get one mark) and the correction (for which they would get a second mark).
  • Continue until all the errors have been spotted and corrected. The team with the most points at the end wins.
  • In addition to being suitable for all levels of Cambridge exams (Use of English), you can use the students own work for peer correction.
